The complete governing body of ASAAL — the officers, vice presidents, trustees, and standing committees that lead the federation between Conventions.

§ 01

Executive Officers

11 members · elected at Convention

The Founder & President Emeritus, the National President, and nine directors who carry day-to-day operational responsibility for the federation.

§ 02

Vice Presidents

39 members

Cross-chapter and cross-professional leadership — representing regional chapters, professional sectors (medical, legal, academic), and constituencies across the South Asian diaspora.

    § National Committees

    Three standing committees.

    Beyond the elected officers, three standing committees extend ASAAL's reach into fiduciary oversight, women's leadership, and the next generation.

    Board of Trustees

    7 trustees

    Fiduciary oversight, strategic guidance, and institutional memory. The Trustees include senior leaders, scholars, and the Founder & current National President — anchoring continuity across decades of organizing.

      Women's Committee

      31 members · Chair: Adan Islam

      Empowering South Asian American women in labor, politics, and civic life — and developing the next generation of women leaders within ASAAL and beyond.

        § 05

        Youth Committee

        22 members · 5 scholarship winners

        High-school and college-age members building skills, scholarship, and a pipeline into civic leadership. Scholarship winners are marked with the Scholar badge — recognized at the 18th Annual Convention.

          ASAAL Youth Scholarship Program

          Scholarships are announced annually at the National Convention. The 2025 winners join the Youth Committee's permanent honor roll.

          Elections happen at every National Convention.

          The Executive Council, Vice Presidents, and Committee leadership are elected by the membership at the National Convention. Active ASAAL members in good standing are eligible to run.
